History

Department of Informatics UIN MALIKI Malang was founded in 2004 based on the Letter of Directorate General of Higher Education, Indonesia Ministry of Education No. 05/MPN/HK/2004. The operation of Informatics department was started in the same year by receiving the first undergraduate students in 2004. The department was first accredited by National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi / BAN-PT) in 2007 and received C-standard (enough) based on the BAN-PT Letter No. 019/BAN-PT/Ak-X/S1/VIII/2007 dated on 25 August 2007. However, the department has successfully upgraded its status to have higher accreditation standard from the same accreditation board. It received B-standard (good) based on the BAN-PT Letter No. 057/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/II/2014 dated on 14 February 2014.

Currently Department of Informatics UIN MALIKI Malang consists of four groups of knowledge i.e. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information System and Multimedia. Each group of knowledge is composed by 3 – 6 lecturers, and they have specific research roadmap related to the branch of knowledge and their application as follows:

  • Group of Computer Science mostly develops research on computer vision, pattern recognition and soft computing. The activities have produced 3D visualization on living environment on land. Future direction is to develop automatic approach for environmental management and to broad its scope to have visualization and mapping for marine environment.
  • Group Software Engineering mostly develops research on natural language processing for education purposes using different computing platform such as mobile and website.
  • Group of Information System develops business process to fulfill organization need. Many approaches have been proposed to optimize the operation for traditional Islamic school.
  • Group of Multimedia develops different product of game technology such as NPC (non playing character), story board and game scenario.
