Accepted into BRIN Program, Informatics Engineering Researchers Team Studies AI-Based Budget Efficiency at Bappenas

A research team from the Informatics Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Science and Technology, State Islamic University (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, conducted a research visit to the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) in Jakarta on Monday (October 5, 2026). The visit aimed to explore government budget expenditure efficiency through the application of deep learning technology for text summarization.

Led by Principal Investigator Dr. Ir. Fachrul Kurniawan, M.MT., IPU., ASEAN, Eng., from the Informatics Engineering Study Program, this activity is part of the “Research and Innovation for an Advanced Indonesia” (RIIM) program—specifically the 10th competitive funding wave organized by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

During the visit at the Bappenas headquarters on Jalan Taman Suropati No. 2, Menteng, Jakarta, the research team held in-depth discussions with the Goods/Services Procurement Division and the Public Relations Bureau. The primary focus was to gather fundamental data and information regarding government procurement processes in order to assess the potential for budget efficiency gains through artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.

Through a study titled “Deep Learning for Text Summarization: A Case Study on Government Budget Efficiency,” this research by Informatics Engineering academics aims to provide tangible contributions specifically AI-based recommendations to support state budget governance that is more transparent, effective, and efficient.
