The Informatics Engineering Study Program at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang successfully held an online guest lecture on Friday (May 8, 2026) with the theme “Smart and Fast Data Analysis with AI.” The event, held via Zoom, was attended by approximately 160 participants, consisting of students and lecturers.
The event began with a warm welcome from the Head of the Informatics Engineering Study Program, Mr. Supriyono, M.Kom. He emphasized the importance of mastering AI for students to remain relevant in the ever-changing digital world.
The main topic was then delivered by Mr. Nasruloh Hadis from the International Better Learning Upgrader (IBLU) Academy. He explained that AI learns from billions of texts on the internet, imitating language patterns but not determining whether it’s right or wrong. “If AI frequently reads articles about ‘drinking coffee makes you lose weight,’ it can repeat it, even though it’s not necessarily medically correct,” he said, offering a simple example.
The speaker also quoted NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang as saying: “AI won’t take your job; the person who uses AI will.” This means that AI won’t take someone’s job; instead, it’s the people who skillfully use AI who will excel.
One important aspect of the presentation was the ethics of AI in an academic context. Students were reminded that:
AI should act as an assistant, not the primary author. Use AI to assist with technical productivity, such as proofreading, creating data visualizations, or assisting with writing formatting.
AI may be used for literature exploration and supporting data analysis, for example, by suggesting statistical methods.
AI should not be used to copy or fabricate false data/facts. Any information generated by AI must be verified with trusted academic sources, such as journals, books, or research reports.
This emphasized the need for students to remain critical, honest, and responsible in using artificial intelligence.
In addition, participants were introduced to Coursera’s list of 12 high-income technical skills, including: Generative AI, Data Analysis, Cybersecurity, Web Development, Project Management, and Content Creation. This information provides valuable insights for students looking to develop careers in the technology field.

The Q&A session was lively. Several students asked about how to verify AI results and tips for getting started learning data analysis. The event concluded with a prayer and a virtual group photo.
This guest lecture not only helped Informatics Engineering students at UIN Malang understand how AI works but also equip them with solid academic ethics. They are expected to become a generation that is intelligent, productive, and possesses integrity in utilizing technology.
